Hitch up the 'noe around 6am on Friday morning and headed to St. Marks. Stopped to get a coffee and let the sun rise a bit, then launch to another ultra low tide.
Motored out tossing a top water, and caught a couple of trout on the flats.
Poled around a long sand and oyster bar and only managed to spook some reds. Ended up catching a couple of flounder bouncing a jig head off the sand. Moved on and did a little photo shoot with the gheenoe.
Overall and nice relaxing solo trip at the lighthouse! As always Tight lines, and Happy Halloween- Dave

SUPER low Tide Fishing at the Lighthouse
Like always took a trip to St. Marks to do some fishing. Launch at low tide, which was a hill tide and unbelievably shallow. Ended up poling around where it wasn't dried up and caught Trout, Flounder, and a handful of the ugly and always aggressive Lizardfish. Nick also caught a trout of a lifetime and lost it at the boat trying to lip the fish. Here are the pictures of the adventure:
Two Native Florida Species Declared Extinct this Month
This month two Florida native species were extinct from the State.
The Floirda Fairy Shrimp and the Florida Rainbow Snake. The Rainbow snake was only known to inhabit a small part of Lake Okeechobee, and now no longer inhabiting the area as it has become extinct.
The Fairy Shrimp was only known to inhabit a small pond on the outskirts of gainsville. The pond was destroyed by developers and the species, to the best of enviromental sicentists and the United Wildlife Federation(UWF) to be extinct be it from pollution, developing, or natural selection it is always sad to see an animal go extinct even if it is just a snake or a tiny freshwater shrimp.
We as fisherman and Florida natives/visitors need to protect and treat the enviroment with care. Florida's economy is driven by tourism, much of this is natural tourism involves visiting our beautiful beaches, rivers, and lakes. This is the fishing capitol lets keep it that way! Practice safe photo catch and release and keep the memory forever. Try and pick up trash on the water or by the ramp if you see it laying around and lastley follow bag and size limits if you are going to keep your catch, so that our resources are here for our children and beyond. Every small effort counts!
Sorry to get on an environmental tangent, as I am not a supporter of Green Peace or PETA, nor am I a hard core over the edge environment activist. I do care about my surrounding and environment as this is one of the most beautiful and diverse states, so lets keep it that way!
You can see the article on these extinct florida natives at:

October Trout at St. Marks Lighthouse
I didn't have class until later in the afternoon, the wind
was almost non existent and the weather was amazing. So I took a trip
down to St. Marks from School here at FSU. After launching we poled
around mullet schools and bait, ended up catching some very nice trout.
Here are pictures from the day:
This last picture was taken while trailering out of st marks national refuge in one of the ponds along the side of the road. Until next time, Tight Lines!

First St. Marks Trip With the Gheenoe
Started off the trip at 5am, launched at around 6am after gassing up and waiting for the sun to rise.
Took a short trip down the access canal at the light house launch and entered the bay. We immediately started to run to a shoreline covered with mullet. We started using topwaters and had a few blow ups. Finally a red hits the lure and pops off as we were boating it. Better luck next time.
After repositioning and poling to a school of mullet nick worked the school. A 30+ inch red followed the zara spook all the way to the boat. After waking behind the lure in 5" of water the red finally hit right at the boat, splashing nick. He immediately set the hook, the red took off, and after a short run came unbuttoned. We worked the area some more and managed to only catch a needle fish.
There was plenty of wild life such as alligators and birds and even a few nesting bald eagles in view. Overall it was a great first trip.
